Wolfman Jack

Although I didn’t grow up in the realm of Wolfman Jack; I remember DJ Cousin Brucie replaying snippets of Wolfman Jack on Sirius XM satellite radio on the ’60s on 6.  His humor and voice electrified the music that followed, and his popularity rose to heights unseen before with a Disc jockey.

Born in Brooklyn, January 21, 1938, he would later find his passion in radio as a Disc jockey in 1962-1964 for Inter-American Radio and gained mainstream status via XHRF-FM radio located in Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila, which had the strongest radio frequency – able to broadcast to California and most of the United States.  His admiration for the Blues and Rock n Roll captivated black musicians into the ears of white school students, who otherwise had no access to the tunes.

He would have a small part in the 1973 film American Graffiti, finally allowing his fans a face to the Wolfman’s voice. Wolfman Jack died of a heart attack on July 1, 1995 at the age of 57.  Wolfman Jack is our TIME MACHINE POET OF THE WEEK.
