Leaking The Intercept: Traitors & Whistleblowers

Pluribus International Corporation, an analytical security company with ties to Military base Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia has been breached by one of its contractors, Reality Winner (25).  Augusta, Georiga recently received a budget to construct a $50 million cyber-security center and has an influx of jobs available due to the shortage of qualified candidates, the new facility will be one of the most advanced cybersecurity centers in the United States.  In an interview with WJBF News, Augusta University President Dr. Brooks Keel stated: “We have a chance for Georgia and specifically, Augusta, to become the cyber capital of the United States, if not, the World“.

Reality Winner printed a classified document regarding the Russian’s interference with the 2016 Presidential election and mailed it to the news agency The Intercept who then published it on June 5, with the headline “Top-Secret NSA Report Details Russian Hacking Effort Days Before 2016 Election“.  The Intercept contacted the NSA for a statement about the classified document on May 30, the FBI joined the investigation two days later and located the source of the leaks through the printer she used for the documents.  The NSA utilizes watermarks (invisible yellow dots) via their printers, although this wasn’t the only reason she was caught.

Reality Winner also used a Gmail account to inquire about a podcast The Intercept hosted March 22 entitled “Could Trump Start World War III?”  A federal judge granted a search warrant based on her inquiry into the transcript for the podcast.  Matthew Cole of The Intercept lent a hand with revealing Reality Winner by talking to the NSA; In 2012, Matthew Cole was at the forefront of the indictment of former CIA agent John Kiriakou.  Kiriakou acted as a whistleblower against the Bush administration’s torture techniques used on Al Qaeda terrorists after the attacks on September 11, 2001.  Reality Winner obtained her security clearance February 13 of 2017, and was an active member of the Air Force.  With her online presence geared towards an anti-Trump agenda, how did she gain security access?

WikiLeaks and Julian Assange have both expressed their support for the “alleged whistleblower”.
